Tour Down Under

Several of our athletes headed to the TDU this year to do a hilly block of training but also to compete in the support criteriums.

Kelly Cycling athletes who competed included:  Maddy Cardillo, Mark Kelly, Ben Andrews, Liam White and Nick White.

The coaches, Bob and Helen, were also over there, enjoying the sweltering heat, along with Mark Cummings, his family, Andrew Gent’s parents (aka Senior Skewers), the White’s from Ballarat, the Kelly’s from Horsham, the Andrew’s and the McAlisters.

Local Melbourne photographer, CJ Farquharson, who travels the world, predominantly following the women’s peleton was a TDU official media photographer.  She found Bob and I relaxing  on the finishing circuit of Stage 2.  Later that day she snapped us again, chatting with one of Helen’s former training buddies, current World Time Champion, Judith Arndt.

On day 4, we did a big group ride south and watched the TDU riders come past on the climb.

In all, it was a great week over there, with plenty of riding but also a great chance to relax, swim and visit the many great cafes in the Adelaide Hills.  We can highly recommend it as a cycling holiday and a chance to meet many of the pro’s.
