TDS Professional Women’s Cycling Team

TDS Telecom is the main sponsor of a new national-level women’s cycling team. Team TDS will compete throughout the United States and Canada, while focusing on National Racing Calendar (NRC) events.

The team will consist of six riders:

Emily Gloeckner – Denver, Colorado
Shawn Heidgen – Elburn, Illinois
Rebecca Loney – Madison, Wisconsin
Ann Samplonius – Montreal, Canada
Joan Wilson – Ramona, California
Helen Kelly – Melbourne, Australia

The girls will be riding Salsa scandium road bikes, complete with carbon forks and Campagnola 10 speed record running gear.  Other key sponsors include Limar helmets, Northwave shoes and Rudy Project sunglasses as well as a variety of food sponsors including Subway, Red Bull and Xtran.

Team Manager Karl Heidgen is optimistic for the team’s debut. “There are a lot of talented riders out there,” he said, “but I believe we can compete and win against the best teams in North America.”

The team’s debut race will be the Pomona Valley Stage race, San Dimas, California to be held from 6-9 March 2003, after which the team will fly to Illinois, to spend some time training together, before the major NRC races get underway.
