Phillip Island Grand Prix
Kelly Cycle Coaching had a big group of athletes brave the cold and wintery conditions on the Phillip Island GP circuit last weekend. Athletes were subject to rain, wind, more rain and more wind throughout the day.
In the elite mens race, 36 riders finished out of a field of 181 combined Mens A and B grade.
In our CharterMason team, Michael Hale won the B grade event, and also finished 17th overall. Liam White suffered some bad luck with a puncture and then getting rammed by another cyclist who seemed to have difficulty keeping his bike straight. With two buckled wheels and bruised ribs, Liam limped back to the pits and switched to a team mates bike to finish the race in the front group with Michale Hale. Thanks Hayden for lending Liam your bike. Markie Kelly raced well to finish his first Grand Prix in 9th position, in B Grade, (representing Fitzroy Cycles).

Carley McKay (Holden Cycling Team) raced in the women’s event. After recently returning from her first Interstate event, Carley used this event as a training race, chasing the early breaks and riding hard in the windy conditions.
In the afternoon, CCCC held graded club racing.
The following riders earned podium finishes:
- Carol Cooke – 3rd E Grade
- Hannah Macdougall – 1st women, D Grade
- Jayden Cooper – 3rd C Grade
Other riders who competed on the day include: Steve Carroll, Ben Andrews, Ben Lee, Pierce Connor, Ash Gillespie, Nick White (who got blown completely off the course twice), Camden Bush, Hayden Eynaud, Scott Walkerden, Aaron Blomeley, Bryce Morey, James Cummings, and Sean McIver.
