Great start to season
Great start to season
Well, our first National Calendar Race is over and we had both fun and success. We stayed with the friendliest hosts, Josh and Dawn. They opened their doors to us, (and their garage, 3 bedrooms, pool and hot tub) and we made ourselves comfortable. To compensate for our invasion, we cooked for Josh and Dawn each night and each drank our half glass of red wine – it really helps to relax tired legs and makes me sleep like a log!
Joan, Emily, Shawn and I raced the Pomona stage race. This early season race was a good chance to learn about each other, introduce the winter legs to racing and to add to our fitness. I have been racing all summer in Australia but felt less than 100% due to the time zone adjustment process.
We rode well as a team and looked after one another during each stage. We met Derek, our Sock Guy sponsor before the criterium and he asked us to help ourselves to any Sock Guy products we wanted. I chose a great looking pair of grey Sock guy shoe covers and told Joan during our warm up that I would wear them during the criterium and try to get into a break. Well, that’s exactly what happened and I ended up in a break with Alison Dunlap (T Mobile) Karen Bockell (Rona-Esker) and Megan Elliot (Saturn). In a photo finish, I got pipped on the line by Bockell but was certainly pleased with an early season 2nd place finish.
Joan and I have now just returned from 3 days in Chicago where we met our TDS sponsors and trained in the Artic Chicago weather. After flying in from California the coolish weather in Chicago was certainly a shock to the system. It never gets that cold in Melbourne and I wore so many layers out riding that I looked like I had gained 20 pounds.
At TDS headquarters in Madison we posed for the professional photographer, learned more about TDS as a company and were given some great looking TDS casual clothing. After spending time with Lisa, Deanne, Jerry, Colette, Michael and Britt from TDS, I am thrilled by TDS’s commitment and support towards our teams’ success.
Stay tuned as the TDS team race in California during March and early April.
