Bay crit day 2 – report

Day 2 bay crits report – by Michael Hale

On day 2 of the jayco bay cycling classic it was the eastern park stage which was approximately 2 kilometers in length in the geelong botanical gardens, everyone knew that this day was going to be the hottest day of racing out of the four stages.

The day started off with allthe team riding down to the race circuit ateastern beach after a pre race brekky! After stage one everyone was interested to see how stage 2 would pan out. I felt quite good on the ride down there, and as soon as we get there we get the pre race prep from bob about race tactics and what he expects of us at the end of the race and Helen giving us the know how from her experience on this tough circuit. Once we were at the circuit I wanted to stay off my feet and in the shade as much as possible. Once the race got underway the top riders in the bunch set a cracking pace which resulted in 30 riders abandoning the race out of 55 starters unfortunately those pulling out included just about all my teammates.

There was a breakaway which stayed out to the end while I was stuck in the remnants of the main bunch which included total rush and VIS teamates of the riders in the breakaway so they did not have any contribution to the chasing of the breakaway, eventually the finish of the race came along with the breakaway still up the road, after leading the bunch up the steep climb I finished in a respectable position considering the heat and the quality of riders at the jayco bay cycling classic.
