Kelly Cycle Coaching had two athletes opt to race in the Ararat Junior tour instead of at Phillip Island last weekend.

Drew Morey and Angus Lyons competed in the U17 A grade event.

Both Gus and Drew did well in the time trial, finishing 8th and 10th, respectively.  They were only 34sec and 41sec slower than the winner’s time over the 10km course.  The field included several interstate riders from South Australia and New South Wales so it was a strong field.  Angus recently won the 2012 Australian Hill Climbing Time Trial Championships.  Drew has been getting progressively getting stronger in time trialling and climbing in general.  Drew can often be found hchasing his elder brother’s wheel, Trent Morey (Plan B), up in the Dandenongs.

The next junior tour will be held in Shepparaton in mid June.

Both Gus and Drew narrowly avoided a few crashes in both road events.  Here is a photo of the sprint finish on Day 2.
