Happy New Year

Nick Bien leads, ahead of Drew Morey, Sean McIver, Micky Hale and Simon Clarke

Kelly Cycle Coaching wishes all our athletes, their families and friends a happy and prosperous New Year.

We are heading to Geelong to manage 3 teams at Bay Crits during the first 3 days of January. If you are coming along to watch, please come and say gidday and wish our riders well.  We have 3 teams competing, 2 Essendon SKODA teams and an U19 Degani team.

A week later, we will be in Ballarat for the Australian Road Nationals so come and find us in the feedzone on the hill or somewhere around the criterium circuit.

Below is the link to photos of the last Glenvale criterium before Christmas.  Well done to Steve Carroll who spent the day off the front in C grade, finishing 3rd overall.  Ben Andrews and Scottie Walkerden were also in the final break in B Grade with Ben taking 6th place.  Paddy Burt did well in his first B grade race, featuring in several early moves made by Pierce Connor, Aaron Blomely and Jayden Cooper.

Drew Morey, who was promoted to A Grade, had the privilege of  doing his first A grade race with Orica Green Edge rider, Simon Clarke.  Well done Drew for finishing your first A grade criterium as a 16 year old.

Tour of Bright

KOM Podium

Kelly Cycle Coaching had a number of athletes compete in the Tour of Bright over the weekend.  About 15-20 athletes missed out due the entries filling up in an amazing 20mins time frame.  Most of those who missed the opportunity to compete, came up to train and stay on for our December camp, so we filled the Bright Chalet with 80 athletes, friends and families.

We had some great results from many athletes who raced for the first time in the Tour which was impressive.

Our best results came from C grade.  Angus Lyons won stage 1 and 3, won the KOM competition, 3rd in the sprint competition and finished 1st overall in GC.  Drew finished 3rd in stage 1, 2nd in stage 3, 2nd in the KOM competition and finished 3rd overall in GC.  Jayden Cooper also raced really well, helping to set up Drew and Angus for their final GC results.  “Coops” attacked on stage 3 just after Hariettville, forcing the race leader to chase.  After a counter attack by Drew and then by Angus, both Angus and Drew were able to drop the race leader and Gus took over the race lead.  Drew retained his 3rd place on GC whilst Jayden finished 7th overall (5th in Stage 1).

Our A and B grade riders are still finding their legs after recently completing Year 12 and Uni exams.  Our girls rode well to finish mid field, whilst our Masters riders did well in their first Tour of Bright.

Well done to everyone who raced this tough Tour.

C Grade: 1st and 3rd in GC
